Forest Heights Academy of Excellence is a dedicated visual and performing arts academic magnet school, serving kindergarten through fifth grade. Receiving local, state, and national attention, Forest Heights is a National Blue Ribbon School, a 2011 John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts School of Distinction for Arts Integration, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education model school for arts education, and a participating partner in Louisiana's Imagination, Creativity and Innovation Arts Integration Program. Forest Heights has also been named as a High Performance school for numerous years by the Louisiana Board of Region and Department of Education. Our continuing success can be attributed to collaborative planning, assessment, and data analysis among administration and grade level and arts faculty. This practice enables classroom teachers to identify and meet each student's academic needs, while performances and interdisciplinary projects from the arts teachers allows students to regularly apply acquired knowledge and skills.
Another key factor to our academic success is the modeling of arts integration programming with guidelines and training provided by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This implementation affords Forest Heights Academy the ability to effectively practice innovative approaches to differentiated instruction which is designed to maximize individual student success. In addition to core subject instruction in the traditional classrooms, students receive daily arts instruction based on national and state standards in state-of-the-art studio classrooms. This allows students to develop artistic skills and personal aesthetics as core curriculum connections are made highly effective certified professional teaching artists.
Recognized for continued academic success, Forest Heights is a "High Performance" school where students receive rigorous, personalized instruction. Dance, theatre, visual art, choral music, instrumental music and creative writing classes integrate core curriculum concepts using a variety of learning styles while teaching the fundamentals of each art form. With quality instruction that evolves with student needs and technological innovation, Forest Heights Academy provides a nurturing environment for area children to excel.
