The magnet program at McKinley Magnet High has focus tracks in Mass Media/Communication Arts which includes Broadcasting and Journalism, EBR’s ground-breaking Teacher Academy, along with an Innovative Arts track focusing on Modern Theatre. Our goal at McKinley Magnet High is to invest in the future of our students. We strive to provide all of the essential tools needed to create global learners. McKinley Magnet High is committed to fostering and providing an innovative and rigorous learning platform, while enhancing creativity, originality and artistry in every student.

The Broadcasting pathway focuses on the emerging development of future news anchors, reporters, and radio & television announcers. Our Journalism pathway enhances the craft of media, entertainment, and public relations. Our innovative program is constantly engaged in the development of group-based projects, cultivating excellence, enhancing student performance and portfolio development.

With digital content creation our programs aims to strengthen writing skills, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Students engage in studying mass media, communications, and digital media.

The Teacher Academy is aimed at inviting and developing future teachers. In Partnership with Southern University, the Teacher

Academy will include unique field experiences and exploration opportunities in the education world. Coursework will include various topics; Seminar in Education, Principals of Education, Survey of Students, and Child Psychology for Teachers. Students will participate in a variety of events to enrich their experiences in the education field.

The Innovative Arts department will focus on modern theater, along with dance and art. Theatrical inclined students will have the opportunity to create high-caliber theatrical productions in our Innovative Arts department. Students will study stage productions, acting techniques and learn various components of theatrical acting. Our goal is to engage student performance in different types of plays, including drama, comedy, and a multitude of other genres of performance.
