Program Eligibility
6-8
Grades: A cumulative 2.50 grade point average (GPA) based on the last four (4) consecutive semesters
Test scores: Perform on a level of Basic or above on LEAP 2025 or the equivalent on a norm-referenced assessment in both ELA and math
McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School of Visual & Performing Arts is a dedicated magnet school that challenges students both intellectually and artistically to become educated and responsible citizens who will make valuable contributions to society and provide a basis for lifelong learning.

McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School of Visual & Performing Arts offers an academically focused program for college bound students with an accelerated curriculum and advanced placement courses. Students attending McKinley Middle Academic Magnet will have the opportunity to take Algebra I, Geometry, Physical Science, Spanish I, French I, and Introduction to Business Computer Applications for high school credit.

Students are able to choose from the following visual and performing arts classes: band, choir, strings, piano, art, drawing & painting, animation, sculpture, stage craft design, dance, ballet, drama, musical theatre, TV / Film production, writing for media, creative writing, entrepreneurship, web design, talented art, talented drama, and talented music. While taking these courses, students will have the opportunity to perform at various venues throughout the city and in New York City.

At McKinley, we have taken our curriculum a step further. Our students travel abroad and have visited historic Italian sites in Florence, Venice, and Rome. Students have also traveled to Europe and visited famous cities in France, Greece, England and Spain.
