Program Eligibility

6-8

Grades: A cumulative 2.50 grade point average (GPA) based on the last four (4) consecutive semesters

Test scores: Perform on a level of Basic or above on LEAP 2025 or the equivalent on a norm-referenced assessment in both ELA and math; must be proficient in target language or have prior immersion experience.

Conveniently located in the heart of Baton Rouge on 25 beautiful acres, Westdale Middle is proud to offer a World Language Immersion Magnet Program with Spanish, Mandarin, or French as targeted languages.

Immersion students in grades 6-8 receive world language instruction as part of their regular daily curriculum. Students in the Immersion Program receive 100% of their social studies, science, and language arts instruction in Spanish or French. Students also have opportunities to earn high school credit in the target languages.

Our primary goal is for students to be fluent in Spanish, Mandarin, or French by the eighth grade. This is accomplished through the use of hands-on instructional materials, computer programs, and instruction provided in Spanish, Mandarin and French by certified, bilingual instructors. In addition, our classrooms and computer labs have Internet access, which allows students to communicate directly with students in other countries.

Experience the difference that high expectations and effective resources can make in your child's education! Combine this with teamwork, an outstanding faculty, an involved group of parents, a proud community and eager students, and Westdale Middle School is your best choice for an immersion education.

Westdale Middle School is the only site in the district where qualified students can participate in both the magnet program and the talented program, simultaneously.
